Greg McEol showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Grant McSymon in the 43rd minute of the match. Michael McGorrie was a little too slow when Keith McCodrum got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 46th minute. The score was now 2-1. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Grant McSymon made the kick off in the second half. Ray McQuarties short, quick shot in the 53rdth minute got Greg McEol to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 54 minutes into the game, Gareth Georgeson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Huntington United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ellon AFC the free kick. After 54 played minutes Huntington United got a freekick which was hit by Gareth Georgeson. When Jordan McNamell fell near the penalty area in the 56th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ellon AFC's protests and gave Jordan McNamell a yellow card for diving instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ray McQuartie got free with Greg McEol in the 61st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The supporters of Huntington United booed when Ellon AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gareth Ellis didn't get a good kick on the ball. Huntington United's Michael McGorrie played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ciaran McLintock in the 64th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 66th minute, Keith McCodrum managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ellon AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Keith McCodrum was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post.
