The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Tony McQuaire received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Paddy Lyall tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Angus Airlie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 9th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Tony McQuaire came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Deportivo Español fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tony McQuaire couldn't finish the play. In the 13th minute Graeme McNeilage shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jack Findlay saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jack Findlay took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Graeme McNeilage, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 16 minutes into the game, Kirknewton's Frankie Forstar nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jack Findlay made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Phil Collier hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. In the 27th minute, Graeme McNeilage got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Frankie Forstar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Jack Findlay tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Kirknewton's Frankie Forstar in the 33rd minute got a chance for a shot 33rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Deportivo Español's goalie prevented a goal. Jack Findlay came out of the goal in the 40th minute to try and stop a shot by Kirknewton's Joseph Appleton. But to his dismay, Joseph Appleton quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. After the first half Kirknewton were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tony McQuaire was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd minute Angus Airlie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paddy Lyall saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Kirknewton's Frankie Forstar in the 62nd minute got a chance for a shot 62nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Deportivo Español's goalie prevented a goal. Jack Findlay made a fantastic save in the 67th minute, when Graeme McNeilage sent off a good shot on target. After a rather tough play, Kirknewton's Joseph Appleton got a free kick in the 73rd minute. In the 74th minute Angus Airlie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paddy Lyall saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Frankie Forstar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Graeme McNeilage fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jack Findlay having to interfere. 86 minutes into the game, Conor McCombich was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Deportivo Español's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Kirknewton the free kick. In the 85th minute, one of Deportivo Español:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Deportivo Español. Tony McQuaire succeeded in the game's 91st minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-3. Deportivo Español's Jack Findlay played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Frankie Forstar in the 98th minute of play.
