After a rather tough play, Tain's Gus Morrison got a free kick in the 19th minute. Declan McKellar took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Frank Castle, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Phil Coulthart in the 29th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Connor McOran prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After some careless play in the Johnstone defense, Frank Castle kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Declan McKellar. The Johnstone fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Declan McKellar should have stopped the shot. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Declan McKellar prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a defensive mix-up in Johnstone's zone, Frank Castle stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Declan McKellar came out of the goal and Frank Castle tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After the first half Tain were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Phil Coulthart stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kenneth McIlzegowie in the 59th minute of play forced Tain's goalkeeper Connor McOran to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Connor McOran showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kenneth McIlzegowie, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. Connor McOran came out of the goal in the 62nd minute to try and stop a shot by Johnstone's Phil Coulthart. But to his dismay, Phil Coulthart quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. After a rather tough play, Tain's Gus Morrison got a free kick in the 68th minute. When Phil Coulthart came up free with the goalie in the 78th minute, the Johnstone fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Phil Coulthart couldn't finish the play. After 86 minutes, Aidan McNey mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Tain and the Johnstone players grew even worse after the yellow card. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bruce Brebner during the 87th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Tain's Gus Morrison pulled a muscle in his leg after 92 minutes and couldn't finish the game. Grant Hutcheson charged in rather forcefully in the 92nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Grant Hutcheson the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 92nd minute, Grant Hutcheson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Johnstone booed when Tain was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bruce Brebner didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 97 minutes Tain's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Freddie McKinnon who took care of the corner kick. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Johnstone had won after a very even match.
