Troy McKinney kicked well hit freekick during the 4th minute of the match. David Dallas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 8th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Matt Neilson having to interfere. Donald McKnight sent away a hard shot on goal in the 11th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The audience was convinced that David Dallas's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Matt Neilson was relentless in the 15th minute of the game. A collision led to Melrose getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. Ewan McCartair hit a great ball. David Dallas struck a weak shot in the 28th minute. Matt Neilson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Inverness City. In the 30th minute of the match Luke Brown shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Matt Neilson showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 30 played minutes Melrose got a freekick which was hit by Lewis McCause. An unexpectedly hard shot by Elliot Donaldson in the 33rd minute of play forced Inverness City's goalkeeper Edward McBaxter to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Donald McKnight was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 36th minute. Melrose's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. In the 41st minute, Evan McKessock hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Elliot Donaldson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Melrose's Elliot Donaldson got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

After a rather tough play, Melrose's Lewis McCause got a free kick in the 54th minute. The audience was convinced that Evan McKessock's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Matt Neilson was relentless in the 55th minute of the game. 58 minutes into the game, one of Melrose:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Melrose's Matt Neilson proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 65th minute of the match, managed to save Melrose from getting a goal against them. David Dallas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Donald McKnight sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 83rd minute, Elliot Donaldson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Melrose's supporters rose to their feet, but Elliot Donaldson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edward McBaxter breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Donald McKnight might have been able to make a better finish in the 90th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Edward McBaxter. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Donald McKnight ran back to his position shaking his head. 90 minutes into the match, Elliot Donaldson notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Inverness City's Edward McBaxter. Edward McBaxter was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Melrose's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
