Spectators: 6797 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1797, VIP seats: 0) 7 minutes into the match, Melrose's goal looked a bit too open when Sid Gruer came free, but Matt Neilson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gary Jones kicked well hit freekick during the 9th minute of the match. Donald McKnight succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-0 in the 12th playminute. After having played for 19 minutes, Sid Gruer managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Kelty's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sid Gruer was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Kelty's David Collier played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Elliot Donaldson in the 21st minute of play. In the 22nd minute of the match Melrose got a corner. Kelty's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Harold McHendry ran over to the corner to take the kick. David Collier made an important save on a dangerous shot by Donald McKnight in the 26th minute. If Sid Gruer had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lewis McCause kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. Donald McKnight could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 39th minute of the match, but David Collier made a huge save. The audience thought a goal was coming when Donald McKnight got free with David Collier in the 48th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Elliot Donaldson was the one to do the kick off. The supporters of Kelty booed when Melrose was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lewis McCause didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 59th match minute, Kelty was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gary Jones to maneuver through the defense. Elliot Donaldson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. David Collier tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Tim Gow fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Matt Neilson having to interfere. Elliot Donaldson might have been able to make a better finish in the 76th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over David Collier. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Elliot Donaldson ran back to his position shaking his head. When Tim Gow came up free with the goalie in the 79th minute, the Kelty fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tim Gow couldn't finish the play. Donald McKnight sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Matt Neilson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sid Gruer, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. Sid Gruer received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Matt Neilson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sid Gruer recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 96th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.
