Orkney Park
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000,
Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Shane Davenport started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. Orkney's Chris Fairbairn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Iain McAskill in the 3rd minute of play. Edward Wilson's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Eddie Ashmore firmly grabbed it by the left post. Ricky McFater could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 12th minute of the match, but Eddie Ashmore made a huge save. 14 minutes into the match, Orkney's Shane Davenport sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Eddie Ashmore narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 16 minutes, Oliver Carstarphen mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Lochgelly United and the Orkney players grew even worse after the yellow card. 16 minutes into the game, one of Lochgelly United:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Eddie Ashmore went to the wrong direction when Nick McCay was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. If Innes McNuir had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Orkney's zone, Iain McAskill stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Chris Fairbairn came out of the goal and Iain McAskill tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Shane Davenport received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Eddie Ashmore tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 31 minutes into the match, Innes McNuir had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Chris Fairbairn. Orkney's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Innes McNuir was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. In the 34th match minute, Lochgelly United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gregor McEol to maneuver through the defense. Nick McCay was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 35th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. If Ricky McFater had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Lochgelly United's Troy McWhannell got a free kick in the 39th minute. 49 minutes into the match, Lochgelly United's goalkeeper Eddie Ashmore had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ricky McFater. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Iain McAskill made a kick off. After 55 minutes Orkney's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Eddie McMath who took care of the corner kick. The corner led Lochgelly United's Eddie McMath to fire away a dangerous shot which Chris Fairbairn despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. When Ricky McFater came up free with the goalie in the 57th minute, the Orkney fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ricky McFater couldn't finish the play. Eddie Ashmore took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Shane Davenport, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 59 minutes into the match, Ricky McFater notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Lochgelly United's Eddie Ashmore. Eddie Ashmore was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. If Shane Davenport had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ricky McFater blasted a shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Eddie Ashmore having to make a save. In the 75th minute, Ricky McFater left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Orkney fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. After some careless play in the Lochgelly United defense, Ricky McFater kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Eddie Ashmore. The Lochgelly United fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Eddie Ashmore should have stopped the shot. Lochgelly United's Eddie Ashmore played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Shane Davenport in the 84th minute of play. Ricky McFater fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eddie Ashmore having to interfere. Shane Davenport received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Eddie Ashmore tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Eddie Ashmore made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Shane Davenport in the 92nd minute of play. If Ricky McFater had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 94 minutes into the match, Shane Davenport notched a goal, 4-2, to the right of Lochgelly United's Eddie Ashmore. Eddie Ashmore was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
