Ronnie Brownson showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. Shane Davenport recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 11th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ricky McFater in the 26th minute of play forced Falkirk F.C.'s goalkeeper Martin McOnie to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Shane Davenport sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Falkirk F.C. booed when Orkney was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ricky McFater didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Ronnie Brownson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Timmy McArthur fell near the penalty area in the 32nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Falkirk F.C.'s protests and gave Timmy McArthur a yellow card for diving instead. In the 32nd minute, Timmy McArthur hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Orkney's Nick McCay was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Martin McOnie in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 40th minute Shane Davenport shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Martin McOnie saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 40 minutes into the game, Dominic Ballantyne was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Falkirk F.C.'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Orkney the free kick. After a rather tough play, Falkirk F.C.'s Dominic Ballantyne got a free kick in the 40th minute. 1-2 became the score in the 41st minute when Ricky McFater elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Falkirk F.C.'s Martin McOnie played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ricky McFater in the 46th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dominic Yule during the 49th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 49th match minute, Orkney was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dominic Yule to maneuver through the defense. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

57 minutes into the match, Falkirk F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Shane Davenport came free, but Martin McOnie reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ronnie Brownson scored 2-4 in the 73rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Chris Fairbairn, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Martin McOnie made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Shane Davenport in the 76th minute of play. Shane Davenport received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Martin McOnie came out and tried to block the shot, but Shane Davenport slotted it home off the left post making it 2-5 in the 78th minute. An unexpected shot in the 89th minute by Ricky McFater got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Martin McOnie didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ricky McFater went, in the 91st minute, to the upper right corner, 2-6 was the resulting score. Chris Fairbairn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nick Keith in the 94th minute of the match. Ronnie Brownson struck a weak shot in the 96th minute. Chris Fairbairn didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Falkirk F.C.. In the 99th match minute, Falkirk F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vincent Andrews to maneuver through the defense.
