Seating: 1941, VIP seats: 0) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Keith May kicked off to start the match. Helensburgh FC's Lloyd McCamie proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 4th minute of the match, managed to save Helensburgh FC from getting a goal against them. Steven McGrowther scored 0-1 in the 6th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of David Wilson, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Wigtown United's David Wilson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Steven McGrowther in the 10th minute of play. If Steven McGrowther had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Steven McGrowther sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Helensburgh FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Steven McGrowther was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. David Wilson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. David Wilson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ronald Alcock, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. After a rather tough play, Helensburgh FC's David Beath got a free kick in the 47th minute. After the first half Helensburgh FC were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Steven McGrowther stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Alistair Arthur charged in rather forcefully in the 53rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alistair Arthur the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. 52 minutes into the game, one of Wigtown United:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Helensburgh FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Wigtown United the free kick.
