The supporters of Leith United booed when Peterculter was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Harold Fraser didn't get a good kick on the ball. The throw-in from Ian Lawson in the 47th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Leith United's Paul Beattie. 47 minutes into the match, Peterculter's goal looked a bit too open when Paul Beattie came free, but Frankie Baldwin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-5 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Guy Hutcheson was the one to do the kick off. When Robbie Gemmil came up free with the goalie in the 63rd minute, the Leith United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Robbie Gemmil couldn't finish the play. Frankie Baldwin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bruce Adams in the 95th minute of play. When the final whistle sounded Leith United left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Peterculter.
