Edward Begg hit a great freekick 3 minutes into the match. The supporters of Wick booed when St.Mirren was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 5 match minutes in a wonderful position. Edward Begg didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 8th play minutes Matthew Wilkie shot 1-0, a short shot which went by Ronnie Frew and just under the crossbar into goal. Stephen McCartair fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Walter Wylie having to interfere. If Stephen McCartair had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Norman Boyle struck a weak shot in the 34th minute. Ronnie Frew didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for St.Mirren. Matthew Wilkies short, quick shot in the 36thth minute got Ronnie Frew to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Matthew Wilkie received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Ronnie Frew tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. St.Mirren's Walter Wylie played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by John Hobson in the 44th minute of play. Stephen Barnfather struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Ronnie Frew didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for St.Mirren. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

When Matthew Wilkie came up free with the goalie in the 56th minute, the St.Mirren fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Matthew Wilkie couldn't finish the play. Matthew Wilkie's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ronnie Frew read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 57th minute of play. 58 minutes into the match, Norman Boyle had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ronnie Frew. Wick's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Norman Boyle was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. The crowd rose to their feet as John Hobson kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Walter Wylie. That made the score 3-1 in the 66 minute of play. Kenny Burns's late challenge caught a Wick's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. The St.Mirren fans cheered their team off the field, for while Wick had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
