Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Rick McEachern made the kick off and thus started the match. Avoch's Sean Elliott played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gregor Harold in the 3rd minute of play. Norman Alder took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rick McEachern, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 10 played minutes Avoch got a freekick which was hit by Wayne Cooke. Phil McTary hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. When Gregor Harold came up free with the goalie in the 12th minute, the Kirriemuir fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gregor Harold couldn't finish the play. Rick McEachern sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 17th minute, Dean Munro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Simon McBrieve had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Norman Alder showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rick McEachern in the 26th minute of the match. Norman Alder took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Norman McComas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rick McEachern recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 28th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Norman McComas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Norman Alder took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Norman McComas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Avoch booed when Kirriemuir was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Charles Luke didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 32nd minute Rick McEachern shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Norman Alder saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 35 played minutes Kirriemuir got a freekick which was hit by Edmond McLintock. Wayne Cooke took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 36th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Norman Alder. Kirriemuir's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Kirriemuir's Norman Alder played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Norman McComas in the 37th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Kirriemuir's Charles Luke got a free kick in the 37th minute. Norman McComas's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Norman Alder read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 39th minute of play. Sean Elliott showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jack Esson, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Gregor Harold received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Sean Elliott tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 46 minutes into the match, Kirriemuir's goal looked a bit too open when Norman McComas came free, but Norman Alder reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
Sean Elliott made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gregor Harold in the 53rd minute of play. Dean Munro charged in rather forcefully in the 54th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dean Munro the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Dean Munro kicked well hit freekick during the 55th minute of the match. Norman Alder showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Norman McComas, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. When Wayne Cooke fell near the penalty area in the 58th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Avoch's protests and gave Wayne Cooke a yellow card for diving instead. After 59 played minutes Avoch got a freekick which was hit by Wayne Cooke. Sean Elliott made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jack Esson in the 60th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Simon McBrieve during the 60th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Avoch getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Simon McBrieve hit a great ball. Wayne Cooke struck a weak shot in the 69th minute. Norman Alder didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Avoch. An unexpectedly hard shot by Norman McComas in the 93rd minute of play forced Kirriemuir's goalkeeper Norman Alder to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 96th minute Jack Esson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sean Elliott saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Avoch's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
