Miles Munn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Blair Georgeson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 7 minutes, Guy McWhirter mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Invergarry AFC and the Montrose FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Montrose FC getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Kenny Will hit a great ball. In the 15th match minute, Montrose FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Davie McGilroy to maneuver through the defense. Ter McLeay sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Terence Bowers fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Miles Munn having to interfere. Blair Georgeson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Miles Munn tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Invergarry AFC's Miles Munn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Terence Bowers in the 35th minute of play. When Jason Addison fell near the penalty area in the 37th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Invergarry AFC's protests and gave Jason Addison a yellow card for diving instead. In a very dangerous position, a player in Invergarry AFC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 37th minute. Penalty! The referee gave Montrose FC a penalty, 38 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Owen McSween, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Invergarry AFC's Miles Munn. 0-1. In the 42nd minute, Terence Bowers ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Miles Munn was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ter McLeay to make the kick off. Invergarry AFC's Taylor McBeath got a good chance for a goal in the 51st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With his leg Miles Munn managed to avoid a goal in the 57thth minute, when Montrose FC's Blair Georgeson fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. In the 61st match minute, Invergarry AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Les McCuish to maneuver through the defense. In the 64th minute, Montrose FC's Terence Bowers dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-3. Terence Bowers blasted a shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Miles Munn having to make a save. Guy McWhirter kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. Blair Georgeson's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 76thth minute, Miles Munn skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Declan McLardy made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Taylor McBeath in the 81st minute of play. After 90 minutes, Ivan Crombie mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Invergarry AFC and the Montrose FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Montrose FC booed when Invergarry AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ivan Crombie didn't get a good kick on the ball. 91 minutes into the match, Montrose FC's Owen McSween broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Miles Munn made a fantastic save in the 95th minute, when Blair Georgeson sent off a good shot on target. When the match was over Montrose FC could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Invergarry AFC throughout the match.
