The referee ignored Ellon's protests and gave Joshua Alcorn a yellow card for diving instead. Owen McSween took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 10th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Ronan McCune. Ellon's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Terence Bowers in the 12th minute of play forced Ellon's goalkeeper Ronan McCune to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Declan McLardy took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Grant McBurie, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Davie McGilroy fell near the penalty area in the 15th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Montrose FC's protests and gave Davie McGilroy a yellow card for diving instead. Davie McGilroy hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. Montrose FC's defense didn't have a chance, in the 17th minute, when Grant McBurie scored to the left of an out of position Declan McLardy, making the score, 1-0. Patrick McLea recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 22nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Grant McBurie sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fraser Laidlaw in the 26th minute of play forced Ellon's goalkeeper Ronan McCune to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ronan McCune didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Terence Bowers went, in the 31st minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Ronan McCune made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Blair Georgeson in the 34th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fraser Laidlaw in the 37th minute of play forced Ellon's goalkeeper Ronan McCune to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Davie McGilroy in the 38th minute of play forced Ellon's goalkeeper Ronan McCune to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rupert McIlwhom kicked well hit freekick during the 39th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 45th minute, Blair Georgeson managed to get in a good position for a shot. Montrose FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Blair Georgeson was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ronan McCune breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a defensive mix-up in Ellon's zone, Terence Bowers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ronan McCune came out of the goal and Terence Bowers tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Patrick McLea stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Davie McGilroy in the 52nd minute of play forced Ellon's goalkeeper Ronan McCune to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kenny Will's late challenge caught a Ellon's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Kenny Will helped the player get up and apologised. In the 58th match minute, Montrose FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kenny Will to maneuver through the defense. Darius Robson didn't quite understand what happened when in the 60 minute of the game managed to get a great opportunity for a goal and then missed the goal by a feet. In the 62nd minute Terence McCamie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Declan McLardy saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 63 minutes into the match, Terence McCamie notched a goal, 2-2, to the right of Montrose FC's Declan McLardy. Declan McLardy was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Declan McLardy showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Patrick McLea in the 67th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Terence Bowers in the 82nd minute of play forced Ellon's goalkeeper Ronan McCune to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 87 minutes into the match, Ellon's goal looked a bit too open when Davie McGilroy came free, but Ronan McCune reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Shane McCorkill charged in rather forcefully in the 90th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Shane McCorkill the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
