Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The mood of the audience was pleasant when Grant McLeverty made the kick off which started today's match. Ellon's Ronan McCune proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 4th minute of the match, managed to save Ellon from getting a goal against them. 7 minutes into the match, Ellon's goalkeeper Ronan McCune had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Grant McLeverty. 8 minutes into the match, Jeremy Isles had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ronan McCune. Ellon's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jeremy Isles was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. In the 14th minute Grant McBurie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mark Hawson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mark Hawson came out of the goal in the 17th minute to try and stop a shot by Ellon's Terence McCamie. But to his dismay, Terence McCamie quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Lairg's Mark Hawson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Grant McBurie in the 21st minute of play. Jeremy Isles kicked well hit freekick during the 23rd minute of the match. After 25 played minutes Lairg got a freekick which was hit by Grant McLeverty. Mark Hawson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Terence McCamie, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. After 28 minutes, Greig Robison mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Lairg and the Ellon players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Ellon booed when Lairg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Greig Robison didn't get a good kick on the ball. Greig Robison received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Ronan McCune tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Lairg booed when Ellon was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rupert McIlwhom didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 38 played minutes Lairg got a freekick which was hit by Mark Cassels. In the 45th match minute, Lairg was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Greig Robison to maneuver through the defense. In the 46th minute Grant McBurie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mark Hawson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

In the 60th minute, Patrick McLea got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Ellon booed when Lairg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Stuart McKellaigh didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Terence McCamie in the 77th minute of play forced Lairg's goalkeeper Mark Hawson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Grant McLeverty fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ronan McCune having to interfere. Grant McLeverty sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With 82 minutes on the clock, Greig Tarrill commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 83rd minute, Greig Tarrill hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Lairg booed when Ellon was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Frankie Malcolmson didn't get a good kick on the ball. 88 minutes into the game, Jeremy Isles cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-3. Ronan McCune was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Ellon's Ronan McCune played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jeremy Isles in the 95th minute of play. In the 96th match minute, Ellon was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rupert McIlwhom to maneuver through the defense. The Ellon supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Ellon would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
