Stromness's Stephen Lamont played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Raymond Johnston in the 9th minute of play. Fergus Fairbairn made an important save on a dangerous shot by Les McCaa in the 10th minute. 12 minutes in the game Harold Fraser did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Tim Charles. An unexpectedly hard shot by Logan McCubbin in the 13th minute of play forced Stromness's goalkeeper Stephen Lamont to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The wind increased when Les McCaa made the kick off in the second half. During the 53rd minute of the match Les McCaa completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Les McCaa a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. 57 minutes into the match, Stromness's goalkeeper Stephen Lamont had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Raymond Johnston. Henry Denoon lost his temper 59 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. The supporters of Rangers FC booed when Stromness was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 59 match minutes in a wonderful position. Henry Denoon didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Rangers FC's Gary Gowan got a free kick in the 88th minute. Brandon Gunn might have been able to make a better finish in the 89th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Fergus Fairbairn. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Brandon Gunn ran back to his position shaking his head. The throw-in from Gary Gowan in the 95th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Stromness's Andy Lennie. When the match had gone on for 96 minutes, Logan McCubbin took a quick shot and it went in 0-6 without a chance for Stephen Lamont to make any attempt to save it.
