Malcolm McKechnie breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Theo McLagan could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 10th minute of the match, but Tom Saunders made a huge save. A collision led to Tranent City getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Kenny Higginson hit a great ball. Tranent City's Malcolm McKechnie played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jason Geddes in the 14th minute of play. When Edinburgh City's Jason Geddes in the 23rd minute got a chance for a shot 23rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Tom Saunders, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Bob Lockerbie came free with the goalkeeper in the 27th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Tom Saunders could save by the left post. A collision led to Tranent City getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Rob McIlwhom hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Theo McLagan in the 41st minute of play forced Edinburgh City's goalkeeper Tom Saunders to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 0-2 became the score in the 42nd minute when Jason Geddes elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and John McLae made a kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Jason Geddes in the 50th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Malcolm McKechnie prevented the ball from getting in the gole. A collision led to Tranent City getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Bob Lockerbie hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Tranent City's Kenny Higginson got a free kick in the 53rd minute. The attack was good, but when Jason Geddes in the 55th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Jason Geddes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Malcolm McKechnie showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jason Geddes in the 67th minute of the match. During the 68th minute of the match Rob McIlwhom completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Rob McIlwhom a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. In the 69th match minute, Tranent City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rob McIlwhom to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Edinburgh City getting a freekick after 74 minutes play. Gareth McFarlane hit a great ball. Edinburgh City's John McLae got a good chance for a goal in the 77th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a little luck, Tranent City's Malcolm McKechnie got control of the ball when John McLae tried to sneak it across the goal line. 81 minutes into the match, Tranent City's goal looked a bit too open when John McLae came free, but Malcolm McKechnie reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice moves John McLae could shoot a difficult shot in the 83rd minute, which Malcolm McKechnie however easily saved by the left post. If John McLae had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ciaran McAy hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. Kenny Higginson kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jason Geddes in the 95th minute of play forced Tranent City's goalkeeper Malcolm McKechnie to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Edinburgh City's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
