The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Bob Carlyle during the 8th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 11 minutes into the match, Tranent City's goal looked a bit too open when Cameron Gilfillan came free, but Malcolm McKechnie reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Perth booed when Tranent City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Andy McGorrie didn't get a good kick on the ball. Malcolm McKechnie showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bob Carlyle in the 15th minute of the match. After 15 played minutes Tranent City got a freekick which was hit by Kenny Higginson. After 23 minutes of play Perth's Bob Carlyle was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Perth's Simon Duffy got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Simon Duffy sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 39 minutes into the match, Perth's goal looked a bit too open when Theo McLagan came free, but Tyler Graham reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 44 played minutes Tranent City got a freekick which was hit by Nathan McGhee. Perth's Tyler Graham played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Theo McLagan in the 46th minute of play. After 47 played minutes Perth got a freekick which was hit by Cameron Gilfillan. After 48 played minutes, Tranent City's Andy McGorrie shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Tyler Graham came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Tranent City reached it. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Johnny Currie received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Malcolm McKechnie tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 55 minutes, Mike McNiven mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Perth and the Tranent City players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 60th match minute, Tranent City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Theo McLagan to maneuver through the defense. Malcolm McKechnie made a fantastic save in the 61st minute, when Simon Duffy sent off a good shot on target. Perth's Tyler Graham played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Theo McLagan in the 65th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Simon Duffy got free with Malcolm McKechnie in the 70th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Simon Duffy sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Johnny Currie scored 2-1 in the 85th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Malcolm McKechnie, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Simon Duffy could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 94th minute of the match, but Malcolm McKechnie made a huge save. The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. Tranent City were victorious despite being under pressure from Perth for much of the match.
