Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Michael Barns started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. If Michael Barns had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Iona's Brandon McKiggan got a free kick in the 13th minute. A collision led to Golspie getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Euan Basnett hit a great ball. Gavin Monzie charged in rather forcefully in the 18th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gavin Monzie the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Iona booed when Golspie was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 18 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gavin Monzie didn't get a good kick on the ball. Iona's Charlie Stevenson shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 19th minute of play. The shot was stopped by James Elliott but with some difficulty. In the last second James Elliott throw himself and got hold of the ball when Raymond Lonie in the 22ndth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Richard Frizell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Graeme Elliott in the 26th minute of play. James Elliott took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Taylor Coulson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. James Elliott showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hamish Cavanagh, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. If Hamish Cavanagh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 33 minutes into the game, Hamish Murdoson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Iona's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Golspie the free kick. In the 33rd match minute, Iona was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hamish Murdoson to maneuver through the defense. Hamish Murdoson got his second yellow card in the match during the 35th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. In the 42nd minute Harold McPhater shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Richard Frizell saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 45 minutes into the game, Golspie's Graeme Elliott nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Richard Frizell made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. After the first half Golspie were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Raymond Lonie in the 52nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck James Elliott prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 54th minute, Harold McPhater ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Richard Frizell was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. After a rather tough play, Iona's Taylor Coulson got a free kick in the 58th minute. 62 minutes into the game, Golspie's Michael Barns nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Richard Frizell made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. Richard Frizell made a fantastic save in the 73rd minute, when Graeme Elliott sent off a good shot on target. In the 77th minute, Cameron Greig hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 81 minutes, Alex Barbour mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Iona and the Golspie players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Iona getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Alex Barbour hit a great ball. Richard Frizell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Michael Barns in the 85th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Golspie's Donald McKail got a free kick in the 88th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Michael Barns in the 91st minute of play forced Iona's goalkeeper Richard Frizell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice moves Harold McPhater could shoot a difficult shot in the 96th minute, which Richard Frizell however easily saved by the left post.
