With a little luck, Iona's Richard Frizell got control of the ball when John McLae tried to sneak it across the goal line. 9 minutes into the match, Iona's goalkeeper Richard Frizell had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by John McLae. Jonathan Carlyle hit a great freekick 11 minutes into the match. When Raymond Lonie came up free with the goalie in the 12th minute, the Iona fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Raymond Lonie couldn't finish the play. Richard Frizell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jason Geddes in the 20th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Frankie Conlon managed to get in a good position for a shot. Edinburgh City's supporters rose to their feet, but Frankie Conlon was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Richard Frizell breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 27 minutes, John McLae managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Edinburgh City's supporters crossed their fingers, but John McLae was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. With an all-out effort, Edinburgh City's Richard Frizell threw himself towards the right post 28 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Jason Geddes, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 30 minutes into the game, Guy Gordon recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Richard Frizell. Guy Gordon showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. After 38th play minutes John McLae shot 4-0, a short shot which went by Richard Frizell and just under the crossbar into goal. Richard Frizell was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Frankie Conlon showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 5-0 in the 41 minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jason Geddes in the 47th minute of play forced Iona's goalkeeper Richard Frizell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 47 played minutes Iona got a freekick which was hit by Brandon McKiggan. Hamish Cavanagh hit a great freekick 48 minutes into the match. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 5-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and John McLae made a kick off. Richard Frizell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from John McLae in the 59th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jason Geddes in the 60th minute of play forced Iona's goalkeeper Richard Frizell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Richard Frizell took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jason Geddes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 65th minute, Ciaran McAy left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Edinburgh City fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 6-0. In the 75th minute, Frankie Conlon ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Richard Frizell was frozen by the shot and now it was 7-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frankie Conlon in the 78th minute of play forced Iona's goalkeeper Richard Frizell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 79 minutes into the match, Iona's goal looked a bit too open when John McLae came free, but Richard Frizell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Richard Frizell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from John McLae in the 81st minute of the match. 85 minutes into the match, Iona's goal looked a bit too open when Frankie Conlon came free, but Richard Frizell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Hamish Cavanagh hit a great ball. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Edinburgh City had played much better football throughout.
