After a defensive mix-up in Lodoes FC's zone, Ilídio Paiva stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Duarte Benevides came out of the goal and Ilídio Paiva tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Aldo Pires fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Duarte Benevides having to interfere. Joaquim Santarém made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Máximo Resende in the 39th minute of play. The referee gave Lodoes FC a penalty, 50 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Silvério Machado, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Sporting's Joaquim Santarém. 0-1.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Máximo Resende in the 57th minute of play forced Sporting's goalkeeper Joaquim Santarém to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 57th match minute, Sporting was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Inácio Dantas to maneuver through the defense. 60 minutes into the game, Adélio Moniz was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sporting's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Lodoes FC the free kick. In the 63rd minute of the match Lodoes FC got a corner. Sporting's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Silvério Machado ran over to the corner to take the kick. Lodoes FC's Silvério Machado was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Joaquim Santarém in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Máximo Resende sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Paulo Rebocho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joaquim Santarém having to interfere. Aldo Pires might have been able to make a better finish in the 76th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Duarte Benevides. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Aldo Pires ran back to his position shaking his head. Ilídio Paiva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Duarte Benevides having to interfere. After having played for 86 minutes, Aldo Pires managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sporting's supporters crossed their fingers, but Aldo Pires was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to Sporting getting a freekick after 98 minutes play. Josué Nascimento hit a great ball. In the 99th minute of the match Silvério Machado sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Joaquim Santarém skillfully saved the ball. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Sporting lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
