Sérgio Aguiar might have been able to make a better finish in the 28th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Éder Assis. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Póvoa de Varzim F.C's Mariano Viana played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lucas Pimenta in the 31st minute of play. Mariano Viana stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Lázaro Veríssimo's shot from short distance in the 60th minute. 62 minutes into the match, Póvoa de Varzim F.C's goalkeeper Mariano Viana had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lucas Pimenta. If Lázaro Veríssimo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Aprígio Carmona during the 77th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lucas Pimenta got free with Mariano Viana in the 81st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Diogo Furtado charged in rather forcefully in the 90th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. In the 92nd match minute, S.L.Benfica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lisandro Setúbal to maneuver through the defense. S.L.Benfica's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
