SC Assento's Luís Ferrão got a good chance for a goal in the 22nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Óscar Vaz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Israel Amado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Israel Amado made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlos Pinheiro in the 25th minute of play. 28 minutes into the match, Carlos Pinheiro had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Israel Amado. SC Assento's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Carlos Pinheiro was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. After 32 played minutes SC Assento got a freekick which was hit by Valério Saraiva. An unexpectedly hard shot by José Jesus in the 37th minute of play forced SC Assento's goalkeeper Israel Amado to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 43rd minute, José Jesus ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Israel Amado was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

In the 51st minute Luís Ferrão shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rui Vieira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. José Jesus struck a weak shot in the 58th minute. Israel Amado didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Benfica. After some careless play in the SC Assento defense, Carlos Pinheiro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Israel Amado. The SC Assento fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Israel Amado should have stopped the shot. Tiago Telinhos hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. Carlos Pinheiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After having played for 82 minutes, Pedro Oliveira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Benfica's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pedro Oliveira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If José Jesus had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 87th minute, Ricardo Alves hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 91 minutes, Ricardo Alves mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Benfica and the SC Assento players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of SC Assento booed when Benfica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ricardo Alves didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Valério Saraiva in the 92nd minute of play forced Benfica's goalkeeper Rui Vieira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match was over Benfica could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than SC Assento throughout the match.
