In the 14th minute Damião Silveira shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Emanuel Nascimento saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Leões FC's Albérico Camargo got control of the ball when Emanuel Pereira tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a rather tough play, Leões FC's Evandro Patrício got a free kick in the 17th minute. When Américo Veríssimo fell near the penalty area in the 40th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Leões FC's protests and gave Américo Veríssimo a yellow card for diving instead. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 40th minute of the game. One of Leões FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Mazes:s goal.
