A collision led to Sporting CP getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Pedro Mascarenhas hit a great ball. After having played for 15 minutes, Afonso Vieira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sarrabicos's supporters crossed their fingers, but Afonso Vieira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Augusto Bessa in the 17thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. With his leg Kevin Lencastre managed to avoid a goal in the 30thth minute, when Sarrabicos's Pedro Correia fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Pedro Correia's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Kevin Lencastre read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 32nd minute of play. The supporters of Sporting CP booed when Sarrabicos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Keith McIntyre didn't get a good kick on the ball. Tarcísio Bentes's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Luís Trindade read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 35th minute of play. Luís Trindade came out of the goal and Tarcísio Bentes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Torcato Mesquita got free with Luís Trindade in the 62nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Filipe Casado made a great header on Sporting CP's corner, it was just that Sarrabicos's Luís Trindade managed to reach the ball for a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tarcísio Bentes in the 65th minute of play forced Sarrabicos's goalkeeper Luís Trindade to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kevin Lencastre showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pedro Correia, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute.
