After a defensive mix-up in Aveleira FC's zone, Gaspar Valadares stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Licínio Xavier came out of the goal and Gaspar Valadares tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cândido Ribeiro hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. After 15 minutes, Lázaro Simões mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the SC Castelo da Maia and the Aveleira FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. Gil Resende sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Óscar Coimbra scored 1-2 in the 20th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Adolfo Veríssimo, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Óscar Coimbra received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Adolfo Veríssimo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 27 minutes, Lourenço Vale mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the SC Castelo da Maia and the Aveleira FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Aveleira FC booed when SC Castelo da Maia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lourenço Vale didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, SC Castelo da Maia's Miguel Modesto got a free kick in the 28th minute. SC Castelo da Maia's supporters rose to their feet, but Lourenço Vale was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Licínio Xavier breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gil Resende in the 39th minute of play forced SC Castelo da Maia's goalkeeper Adolfo Veríssimo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 41 minutes of play, Aveleira FC's Gil Resende made it 1-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Adolfo Veríssimo was left in no man's land by his defense there! The SC Castelo da Maia players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Aveleira FC were winning 1-3.

During the 50th minute of the match Lourenço Vale completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Lourenço Vale a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. After a rather tough play, SC Castelo da Maia's Lourenço Vale got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Abílio Peixoto charged in rather forcefully in the 74th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Abílio Peixoto hit a great ball. After recieving a nice pass, Aveleira FC's Francisco Morais tried to score from far away in the 75th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. If Óscar Coimbra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, SC Castelo da Maia's Diogo Godinho got a free kick in the 78th minute. Diogo Godinho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 83rd minute. Adolfo Veríssimo made a fantastic save in the 90th minute, when Óscar Coimbra sent off a good shot on target. In the 94th minute, Óscar Coimbra made a precise shot to the right of Adolfo Veríssimo. SC Castelo da Maia's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-5. Gil Resende's late challenge caught a SC Castelo da Maia's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gil Resende helped the player get up and apologised. Gil Resende kicked well hit freekick during the 97th minute of the match. Aveleira FC's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
