If Américo Leão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Peixeninho's Jaime Dantas got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 29th minute, Jorge Leiria got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Américo Leão in the 33rd minute of play forced Montalegre's goalkeeper Vasco Dantas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jorge Leiria could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Raul Amaro made a huge save. In the 38th minute, Jorge Leiria got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 41st minute Jaime Dantas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vasco Dantas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Oliveira Simões during the 45th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Montalegre booed when Peixeninho was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jaime Sousa didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Jorge Leiria came up free with the goalie in the 50th minute, the Montalegre fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jorge Leiria couldn't finish the play. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Jaime Leite struck a weak shot in the 79th minute. Raul Amaro didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Montalegre. When the match had been going on for 94 minutes, Peixeninho's Jaime Sousa got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Vasco Dantas. The Peixeninho players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
