Rio Meão's supporters rose to their feet, but Vladimiro Carvalhais was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Antero Matos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 9 minutes of play, Rio Meão's Henrique Pestana made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Antero Matos was left in no man's land by his defense there! Antero Matos didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Óscar Fontes went, in the 13th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. If Óscar Fontes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Timóteo Quintanilha struck a weak shot in the 17th minute. Antero Matos didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Rio Meão. Antero Matos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Óscar Fontes, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Óscar Fontes couldn't finish the play. In the 44th minute Timóteo Quintanilha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Antero Matos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sporting CP's Antero Matos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Óscar Fontes in the 47th minute of play.
