The referee ignored SC Arelho's protests and gave Ivo Fidalgo a yellow card for diving instead. In the 10th minute of the match Armindo Castro shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Adelino Torcato showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When Ivo Fidalgo was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 12 minutes had been played. Claudemiro Bacelar's late challenge caught a SC Merouco's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Claudemiro Bacelar helped the player get up and apologised. After 14 played minutes SC Arelho got a freekick which was hit by Claudemiro Bacelar. 15 minutes into the match, SC Merouco's Emílio Amorim sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Adelino Torcato narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a rather tough play, SC Merouco's Armindo Castro got a free kick in the 16th minute. The audience was convinced that Claudemiro Bacelar's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Tiago Azevedo was relentless in the 17th minute of the game. If Joaquim Magalhães had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Emílio Amorim could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Adelino Torcato made a huge save. Adelino Torcato made a fantastic save in the 39th minute, when Bruno Assunção sent off a good shot on target. Adelino Torcato showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joaquim Magalhães in the 44th minute of the match. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Claudemiro Bacelar to make the kick off. Augusto Teves struck a weak shot in the 52nd minute. SC Merouco's supporters rose to their feet, but Bruno Assunção was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Adelino Torcato breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 75 minutes, Emílio Amorim managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SC Merouco's supporters crossed their fingers, but Emílio Amorim was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 82 minutes into the match, Claudemiro Bacelar dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Tiago Azevedo, 0-1. Emílio Amorim fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Adelino Torcato having to interfere. Adelino Torcato showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joaquim Magalhães in the 88th minute of the match. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched SC Arelho eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
