The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Viriato Leme's late challenge caught a CF Belenenses's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Viriato Leme helped the player get up and apologised. In the 33rd minute, Viriato Leme hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpected shot in the 35th minute by Roberto Portugal got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 37th minute, Roberto Portugal managed to get in a good position for a shot. CF Belenenses's supporters rose to their feet, but Roberto Portugal was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julião Porto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Silvestre Linhares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Vivaldo Caetano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Silvestre Linhares in the 41st minute of play. Manuel Azenha might have been able to make a better finish in the 45th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Vivaldo Caetano. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Manuel Azenha ran back to his position shaking his head. Silvestre Linhares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Henrique Infante fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julião Porto having to interfere. When Manuel Azenha came up free with the goalie in the 79th minute, the SC Sambrana fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Manuel Azenha couldn't finish the play. Vivaldo Caetano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Silvestre Linhares in the 85th minute of the match.
