With a little luck, Penas FC's Alcides Carreira got control of the ball when Hermano Pedroso tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Lúcio Laureano had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 23 minutes, Hermano Pedroso managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bezerreira's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hermano Pedroso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Lúcio Laureano came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the Penas FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lúcio Laureano couldn't finish the play. Joaquim Quinaz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Penas FC's Joaquim Quinaz got a good chance for a goal in the 28th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Hermano Pedroso got free with Alcides Carreira in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After the first half Penas FC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
