Afonso Brito took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 16th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Nélson Bettencourt. Aves FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. If Gonçalo Campos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gonçalo Campos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 35th minute Raul Fonseca shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nélson Bettencourt saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Raul Fonseca in the 37th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nélson Bettencourt prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Gonçalo Campos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Nélson Bettencourt tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Raimundo lago could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but João Monteiro made a huge save. When Vicente Delgado fell near the penalty area in the 43rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Gramachinha FC's protests and gave Vicente Delgado a yellow card for diving instead. João Monteiro had in the 45thth minute some difficulties stopping Jairo Quinaz's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Raul Fonseca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Gonçalo Campos made a kick off. In the 53rd minute of the match Gramachinha FC got a corner. Aves FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Vicente Delgado ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Gramachinha FC's Joel Carneiro to fire away a dangerous shot which Nélson Bettencourt despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Raimundo lago charged in rather forcefully in the 54th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Raimundo lago the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Raimundo lago hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gonçalo Campos in the 63rd minute of play forced Aves FC's goalkeeper Nélson Bettencourt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Octávio Teixeira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without João Monteiro having to interfere. Nélson Bettencourt took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gonçalo Campos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience was convinced that Gonçalo Campos's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nélson Bettencourt was relentless in the 85th minute of the game. After 85 played minutes Aves FC got a freekick which was hit by Gaspar Simões. Raul Fonseca's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Nélson Bettencourt firmly grabbed it by the left post. Octávio Teixeira scored 2-0 in the 89th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of João Monteiro, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 97th minute Gramachinha FC were awarded a corner. Vicente Delgado went to the cornerflag to take it. After a rather tough play, Aves FC's Albertino Quaresma got a free kick in the 98th minute. Aves FC's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
