The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 13th match minute, POVOA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rui Pires to maneuver through the defense. Fabrício Tavares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 18 minutes into the game, Daniel Correia was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. POVOA's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Gonca FC the free kick. In the 19th minute there was a penalty for Gonca FC. Durval Vasques stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Manuel Sousa. 0-1. 22 minutes into the game, Damião Valadares was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Gonca FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave POVOA the free kick. A collision led to Gonca FC getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Damião Valadares hit a great ball. Rui Pires who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 23rdth minute tested the skills of Veríssimo Ferreira when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 29th minute, Rui Pires got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ingvar Bryngelsson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Veríssimo Ferreira having to interfere. Osvaldo Salvado's late challenge caught a POVOA's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Osvaldo Salvado helped the player get up and apologised. If Rui Pires had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ingvar Bryngelsson struck a weak shot in the 40th minute. Veríssimo Ferreira didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for POVOA. When POVOA's Rui Pires in the 42nd minute got a chance for a shot 42nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Gonca FC's goalie prevented a goal. After the first half Gonca FC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Rui Pires made a kick off. After 53 minutes, Silvério Nunes mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Gonca FC and the POVOA players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 53rd match minute, Gonca FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Silvério Nunes to maneuver through the defense. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Rui Pires in the 55th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Veríssimo Ferreira saved Gonca FC from getting behind. Normando Diegues kicked well hit freekick during the 56th minute of the match. POVOA's Augusto Paredes took a good shot, in the 57th minute, which hit the crossbar above Veríssimo Ferreira's head, and flew over the goal. Gonca FC's manager was very thankful on the sidelines as his team had managed to keep the ball out of the net after some serious pressure by POVOA. Ingvar Bryngelsson struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Veríssimo Ferreira didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for POVOA. If Ingvar Bryngelsson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Damião Valadares got his second yellow card in the match during the 64th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. After some fancy dribbling in the 70th minute, Rui Pires managed to get in a good position for a shot. POVOA's supporters rose to their feet, but Rui Pires was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Veríssimo Ferreira breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After having played for 72 minutes, Fabrício Tavares managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gonca FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fabrício Tavares was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rui Pires in the 74th minute of play forced Gonca FC's goalkeeper Veríssimo Ferreira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Luís Paiva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Veríssimo Ferreira having to interfere. Leonel Quintas hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. 87 minutes into the match, Rui Pires had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Veríssimo Ferreira. Gonca FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rui Pires was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. The audience was convinced that Rui Pires's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Veríssimo Ferreira was relentless in the 92nd minute of the game. Veríssimo Ferreira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rui Pires, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Gonca FC succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though POVOA had controlled the match.
