Rebola's supporters rose to their feet, but Santiago Soveral was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hermenegildo Castelo Branco breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After some careless play in the Gaia defense, Daniel Gusmão kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Hermenegildo Castelo Branco. The Gaia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Hermenegildo Castelo Branco should have stopped the shot. Daniel Gusmão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hermenegildo Castelo Branco having to interfere. Gaia's Hermenegildo Castelo Branco proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 69th minute of the match, managed to save Gaia from getting a goal against them. Hermenegildo Castelo Branco took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Márcio Seixas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Márcio Seixas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 99th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the final whistle sounded Rebola left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Gaia.
