Nivaldo Rego scored 0-1 in the 3rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Rogério Rangel, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After a rather tough play, Gondiais's Cesário Belém got a free kick in the 9th minute. Rogério Rangel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Delfim Dantas in the 31st minute of play. Rogério Rangel stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nivaldo Rego's shot from short distance in the 32nd minute. If Bento Guerra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nivaldo Rego received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 39th minute. Rogério Rangel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Delfim Dantas struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Rogério Rangel didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ventelharia. Bento Guerra fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rogério Rangel having to interfere. When Delfim Dantas fell near the penalty area in the 44th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ventelharia's protests and gave Delfim Dantas a yellow card for diving instead. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-1.

Rogério Rangel was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Delfim Dantas showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 3-2 in the 70 minute of play. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Gondiais fully deserved thier win.
