Rui Valente fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Filinto Paixão having to interfere. If Francisco Soveral had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 15th minute, Alexandre Candeias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Rui Valente had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The supporters of SC Valenciano booed when Funchal e Benfica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Durval Assunção didn't get a good kick on the ball.
