In the 3rd match minute, BENFICA F C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Paulo Gois to maneuver through the defense. After 9 played minutes SC Valenciano got a freekick which was hit by Alexandre Candeias. Paulino Linhares took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fabrício Granja, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of SC Valenciano booed when BENFICA F C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Almiro Osório didn't get a good kick on the ball. Filinto Paixão stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jeremias de Amaral's shot from short distance in the 18th minute. Fabrício Granja sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 28 minutes into the match, BENFICA F C's goal looked a bit too open when Igor Ferro came free, but Paulino Linhares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Filinto Paixão was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Eric Rise showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-1 in the 32 minute of play. In the 36th minute, Jeremias de Amaral left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The BENFICA F C fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-1. Paulino Linhares showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fabrício Granja, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-1.

After 56 played minutes BENFICA F C got a freekick which was hit by Paulo Gois. In the 59th minute, Fabrício Granja fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Paulino Linhares, passed just outside the right post. Igor Ferro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 70th minute of the match, but Paulino Linhares made a huge save. In the 72nd minute, Jeremias de Amaral ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Filinto Paixão was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-1. If Eric Rise had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Filinto Paixão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eric Rise in the 87th minute of play. In the 89th minute, Alexandre Candeias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 93 minutes into the match, BENFICA F C's Eric Rise sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Filinto Paixão narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
