Francisco Soveral hit a great ball. 11 minutes into the match, Jeremias de Amaral notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Funchal e Benfica's Noel Coutinho. Noel Coutinho was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The supporters of BENFICA F C booed when Funchal e Benfica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vivaldo Paixão didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 20th minute, Rodrigo Quaresma hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 23rd minute of the game Ivan Nóbrega made a throw-in which Paulo Gois played forward. When Abílio Vargas fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored BENFICA F C's protests and gave Abílio Vargas a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, BENFICA F C's Abílio Vargas got a free kick in the 26th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rui Valente got free with Paulino Linhares in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The audience was convinced that Jeremias de Amaral's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Noel Coutinho was relentless in the 36th minute of the game. If Rui Valente had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jeremias de Amaral to strike the kick off in the second half. Silvestre Cortez hit a great freekick 51 minutes into the match. Noel Coutinho made an important save on a dangerous shot by Eric Rise in the 53rd minute. Noel Coutinho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eric Rise in the 56th minute of play. Paulino Linhares came out of the goal in the 57th minute to try and stop a shot by Funchal e Benfica's Rui Valente. But to his dismay, Rui Valente quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-3. Noel Coutinho made a fantastic save in the 61st minute, when Jeremias de Amaral sent off a good shot on target. BENFICA F C's Eric Rise was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 64th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. Noel Coutinho was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Jeremias de Amaral showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-5 in the 66 minute of play. In the 75thth minute of the game Rui Valente who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but BENFICA F C's Paulino Linhares was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. BENFICA F C's attack was well implemented in the 76th minute, but when Eric Rise was about to shoot he didn't get a good hit on the ball and it hit the crossbar and flew over. Goal Kick. Paulino Linhares showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Francisco Soveral in the 87th minute of the match. BENFICA F C's Abílio Vargas got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The Funchal e Benfica supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching BENFICA F C's performance. The match ended with a win for BENFICA F C.
