The supporters of Celtic FC booed when Ciborro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 2 match minutes in a wonderful position. Laurentino Lage didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a little luck, Ciborro's Filipe Dias got control of the ball when Aldaír Morais tried to sneak it across the goal line. Nickolaj Arbild showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alberto Barcelos in the 4th minute of the match. Tomás Salgado fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Filipe Dias having to interfere. 13 minutes into the match, Tomás Salgado had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Filipe Dias. Ciborro's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tomás Salgado was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. The audience thought a goal was coming when Aldaír Morais got free with Filipe Dias in the 15th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Aldaír Morais fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Filipe Dias having to interfere. 23 minutes into the match, Celtic FC's goal looked a bit too open when Alberto Barcelos came free, but Nickolaj Arbild reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 25th minute Tomás Salgado shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Filipe Dias saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Celtic FC's Nickolaj Arbild played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Laurentino Lage in the 28th minute of play. Tomás Salgado received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Filipe Dias came out and tried to block the shot, but Tomás Salgado slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 30th minute. With his leg Filipe Dias managed to avoid a goal in the 34thth minute, when Celtic FC's Sebastião Nascimento fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Nickolaj Arbild took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gualter Brandão, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 37th match minute, Ciborro was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aristides Calheiros to maneuver through the defense. Filipe Dias made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomás Salgado in the 40th minute of play. When Gualter Brandão fell near the penalty area in the 41st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ciborro's protests and gave Gualter Brandão a yellow card for diving instead. After 41 played minutes Ciborro got a freekick which was hit by Gualter Brandão.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tomás Salgado was the one to do the kick off. 53 minutes into the match, Celtic FC's Aldaír Morais sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Filipe Dias narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Angelo Ferro hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. Laurentino Lage could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 55th minute of the match, but Nickolaj Arbild made a huge save. Nickolaj Arbild made a fantastic save in the 57th minute, when Laurentino Lage sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aldaír Morais in the 58th minute of play forced Ciborro's goalkeeper Filipe Dias to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 59th minute Tomás Salgado shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Filipe Dias saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Laurentino Lage got free with Nickolaj Arbild in the 60th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Tomás Salgado blasted a shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Filipe Dias having to make a save. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tomás Salgado in the 67th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Filipe Dias saved Ciborro from getting behind. After a rather tough play, Ciborro's Laurentino Lage got a free kick in the 71st minute. Aldaír Morais fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Filipe Dias having to interfere. Celtic FC's Nickolaj Arbild played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aristides Calheiros in the 75th minute of play. Ciborro were awarded a corner in the 76th minute after Celtic FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Ricardo Neiva took the corner. In the 80th minute Laurentino Lage shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nickolaj Arbild saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Severiano Cesário hit a great freekick 85 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Ciborro's zone, Tomás Salgado stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Filipe Dias came out of the goal and Tomás Salgado tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Aldaír Morais struck a weak shot in the 91st minute. Filipe Dias didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Celtic FC. In the 92nd match minute, Ciborro was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gualter Brandão to maneuver through the defense. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Celtic FC fans cheered their team off the field, for while Ciborro had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
