The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Sporting Vila Facaia getting a freekick after 10 minutes play. Hipólito Simões hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Hélder Gaspar in the 11th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Homero Carrasqueira saved Sporting Vila Facaia from getting behind. In the 14th minute, Rui Caires hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Homero Carrasqueira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hélder Gaspar in the 18th minute of the match. Patrício Sequeira struck a weak shot in the 19th minute. Homero Carrasqueira didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for SC Varzim. Homero Carrasqueira didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Patrício Sequeira went, in the 20th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Homero Carrasqueira was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Hélder Gaspar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Patrício Sequeira scored 0-4 in the 33rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Homero Carrasqueira, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The supporters of SC Varzim booed when Sporting Vila Facaia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 37 match minutes in a wonderful position. Armando Macieira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-6 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Patrício Sequeira to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute, Hélder Gaspar fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Homero Carrasqueira, passed just outside the right post. In the 55th minute of the match, Patrício Sequeira tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Homero Carrasqueira saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Hélder Gaspar recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 56th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 59 played minutes SC Varzim got a freekick which was hit by Patrício Sequeira. After a rather tough play, Sporting Vila Facaia's Eurico Pimenta got a free kick in the 74th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Patrício Sequeira in the 78th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Homero Carrasqueira saved Sporting Vila Facaia from getting behind. Hélder Gaspar could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 79th minute of the match, but Homero Carrasqueira made a huge save. When Hélder Gaspar came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the SC Varzim fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hélder Gaspar couldn't finish the play. Homero Carrasqueira didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 82nd minute, which inside left pole to 0-9. If Patrício Sequeira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 87 minutes into the game, Patrício Sequeira cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-10. Homero Carrasqueira was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Homero Carrasqueira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patrício Sequeira in the 92nd minute of play. After some careless play in the Sporting Vila Facaia defense, Hélder Gaspar kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Homero Carrasqueira. The Sporting Vila Facaia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Homero Carrasqueira should have stopped the shot. SC Varzim played a much better game than Sporting Vila Facaia and deserved their victory. The Sporting Vila Facaia players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
