Pedro Ortiz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Genílson Maciel in the 23rd minute of play. Luís Franco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Pedro Ortiz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Francisco Neves made in the 38th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Frederik Ceustermans however managed to control. 41 minutes into the game, Manuel Curado cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Pedro Ortiz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Luís Franco was the one to do the kick off. In the 55thth minute of the game Joaquim Mascarenhas who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Reis HSD Paredes's Elias Borges was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The Sporting CP fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pedro Ortiz should have stopped the shot.
