In the 8th minute of the match, Ricardo Salazar tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Sérgio Viegas saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. With a little luck, Sport Açores e Benfica's Sérgio Viegas got control of the ball when Noel Peixoto tried to sneak it across the goal line. 12 minutes into the game, Sords Team's Armindo Silva nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Sérgio Viegas made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. After 18 played minutes Sords Team got a freekick which was hit by Mauro Caldeira. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rafael Raposo got free with Sérgio Viegas in the 25th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Durval Miranda came out of the goal in the 27th minute to try and stop a shot by Sport Açores e Benfica's Valentim Vilas Boas. But to his dismay, Valentim Vilas Boas quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Sérgio Viegas took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Armindo Silva, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 31 minutes into the game, Duarte Bragança was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sport Açores e Benfica's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sords Team the free kick. Duarte Bragança hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. If Ademar Carvalho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After a rather tough play, Sords Team's Armindo Silva got a free kick in the 39th minute. After some careless play in the Sords Team defense, Nélson Matias kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Durval Miranda. The Sords Team fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Durval Miranda should have stopped the shot. Valentim Vilas Boas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Durval Miranda took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nélson Matias, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Durval Miranda showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nélson Matias in the 48th minute of the match. After the first half Sport Açores e Benfica were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Valentim Vilas Boas to strike the kick off in the second half. Durval Miranda made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nélson Matias in the 56th minute of play. Nélson Matias scored 1-4 in the 56th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Durval Miranda, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Armindo Silva in the 70th minute of play forced Sport Açores e Benfica's goalkeeper Sérgio Viegas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 73 minutes into the game, Mauro Caldeira was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. After a defensive mix-up in Sords Team's zone, Maurício Gois stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Durval Miranda came out of the goal and Maurício Gois tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
