Eliseu Tristão made a well adjusted shot against goal in the 44thth minute coming free in front of the goal, but Silvano Fragoso would not let the ball come through at any expense and made a nice save by the left post. estrelas's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Leal Quintanilha in the 46th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Amadeu Quental in the 55th minute of play forced estrelas's goalkeeper João Carreira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Amadeu Quental got free with João Carreira in the 55th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When Honorato Carmona fell near the penalty area in the 61st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Benfica de Penafirme's protests and gave Honorato Carmona a yellow card for diving instead. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side.
