An unexpectedly hard shot by Júlio Gentil in the 3rd minute of play forced AD Oliveirense's goalkeeper Júlio César to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Júlio César didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Henrique Candal went, in the 21st minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Vito de Godoi made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Celedonio Berenguer in the 25th minute of play. In the 29th minute of the match, Celedonio Berenguer tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Vito de Godoi saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. AD Oliveirense's Júlio César played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Júlio Gentil in the 36th minute of play. In the 43rd minute Júlio Gentil shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Júlio César saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After the first half Matos Velhos were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Dave Nash made a kick off. 54 minutes into the match, AD Oliveirense's goal looked a bit too open when Júlio Gentil came free, but Júlio César reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Júlio Gentil in the 57th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Júlio César prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The crowd rose to their feet as Júlio Gentil kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Júlio César. That made the score 0-3 in the 58 minute of play. AD Oliveirense's Júlio César proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 62nd minute of the match, managed to save AD Oliveirense from getting a goal against them. AD Oliveirense's LeBron Naldo was substituted for Fabrício Baía. Matos Velhos's Karl Nietlisbach was substituted for Sabino Vilhena. Matos Velhos's Lee Beckford was substituted for Henrique Candal. After 70 minutes AD Oliveirense's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Tord Böcklund who took care of the corner kick. In the 72nd minute, Domingos Palmeira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Júlio Gentil in the 76thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Júlio César, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Júlio Gentil in the 77th minute of play forced AD Oliveirense's goalkeeper Júlio César to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. AD Oliveirense's defense didn't have a chance, in the 80th minute, when Lee Beckford scored to the left of an out of position Júlio César, making the score, 0-4. In the 88th match minute, Matos Velhos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Durval Meira to maneuver through the defense. Alfréd Fenyvessy struck a weak shot in the 91st minute. Vito de Godoi didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for AD Oliveirense. Özdemir Saygur kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Matos Velhos's Domingos Palmeira got a free kick in the 95th minute. Matos Velhos's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
