Moses Adeche showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Onyemaechi Tachambong in the 26th minute of the match. Grimsby FC's Onyemaechi Tachambong got a good chance for a goal in the 29th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 36th minute, Grimsby FC's Onyemaechi Tachambong dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 3-0. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, Ikechukwu Martin Ibeh managed to get in a good position for a shot. Grimsby FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Ikechukwu Martin Ibeh was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Moses Adeche breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Moses Adeche made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gustaf Spets in the 48th minute of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Onyemaechi Tachambong to make the kick off. Onyemaechi Tachambong received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Moses Adeche tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Zinachidi Gambo fell near the penalty area in the 62nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Grimsby FC's protests and gave Zinachidi Gambo a yellow card for diving instead. A hard shot by Chinwo Makinwa from long distance, 63 minutes into the match, got Dinobi Anwuta's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. After some fancy dribbling in the 65th minute, Onyemaechi Tachambong managed to get in a good position for a shot. Nezie Aboyade fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Moses Adeche having to interfere. Ikechukwu Martin Ibeh blasted a shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Moses Adeche having to make a save. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ikechukwu Martin Ibeh in the 88th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Moses Adeche saved Scunthorpe from getting behind. Chinwo Makinwa charged in rather forcefully in the 89th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Chinwo Makinwa the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Chinwo Makinwa hit a great freekick 89 minutes into the match. If Ikechukwu Martin Ibeh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wiktor Miltung struck a weak shot in the 94th minute. Moses Adeche didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grimsby FC. If Ikechukwu Martin Ibeh had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
