With a couple of smart ball manuevers Habeeb Egbuonu in the 13th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Afolabi Mbonu saved Crystal Palace from getting behind. Habeeb Egbuonu struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Afolabi Mbonu didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Fairfield. After 17 played minutes, Crystal Palace's Efe Oguntade shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Rufus Agundu came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Crystal Palace reached it. With a little luck, Fairfield's Rufus Agundu got control of the ball when Wilson Ukaoha tried to sneak it across the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 21st minute, Habeeb Egbuonu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fairfield's supporters rose to their feet, but Habeeb Egbuonu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Afolabi Mbonu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Wilson Ukaoha might have been able to make a better finish in the 23rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rufus Agundu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Wilson Ukaoha ran back to his position shaking his head. The supporters of Fairfield booed when Crystal Palace was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Obi Ayobolu didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Aniedi Olatunji had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Crystal Palace's Afolabi Mbonu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Habeeb Egbuonu in the 40th minute of play. Habeeb Egbuonu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Afolabi Mbonu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Aniedi Olatunji could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 57th minute of the match, but Afolabi Mbonu made a huge save. After 60 played minutes Crystal Palace got a freekick which was hit by Law Iheagwam. The audience thought a goal was coming when Aniedi Olatunji got free with Afolabi Mbonu in the 63rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wilson Ukaoha in the 64th minute of play forced Fairfield's goalkeeper Rufus Agundu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Wilson Ukaoha blasted a shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rufus Agundu having to make a save. When Wilson Ukaoha came up free with the goalie in the 71st minute, the Crystal Palace fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wilson Ukaoha couldn't finish the play. In the 72nd minute, Danlami Enyeama made a precise shot to the right of Rufus Agundu. Fairfield's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. Crystal Palace's supporters crossed their fingers, but Danlami Enyeama was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Crystal Palace's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
