The crowd rose to their feet as Countesthorpe's Kabir Ovie slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Ogbonna Eluemunoh. That made the score 1-0 after 5 minutes of play. In the 10th minute, Rapuluolisa Belleh got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Kabir Ovie had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nduka Manwe's late challenge caught a Countesthorpe's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nduka Manwe helped the player get up and apologised. With a little luck, Lagos's Ogbonna Eluemunoh got control of the ball when Rapuluolisa Belleh tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ohen Okon received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Ogbonna Eluemunoh came out and tried to block the shot, but Ohen Okon slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 20th minute. The supporters of Lagos booed when Countesthorpe was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Enoh Mekwu didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Countesthorpe's zone, Nduka Manwe stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ubanwa Utaka came out of the goal and Nduka Manwe tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 32nd minute, Amaluchukwu Adelanwa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lagos's supporters rose to their feet, but Amaluchukwu Adelanwa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ubanwa Utaka breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ogbuehi Yusuf in the 39th minute of play forced Countesthorpe's goalkeeper Ubanwa Utaka to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bert Meder received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Ubanwa Utaka tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ubanwa Utaka showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ogbuehi Yusuf, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bert Meder was the one to do the kick off. In the 51st minute of the match, Amaluchukwu Adelanwa got a very nice opportunity to score, but Ubanwa Utaka was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. The supporters of Lagos booed when Countesthorpe was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Oluwasegun Dambatta didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ogbuehi Yusuf fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ubanwa Utaka having to interfere. Lagos's Bert Meder got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 63rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Lagos's goalkeeper Ogbonna Eluemunoh, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Ohen Okon fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ogbonna Eluemunoh having to interfere. Ubanwa Utaka showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ogbuehi Yusuf in the 69th minute of the match. Lagos's Nduka Manwe got a good chance for a goal in the 71st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Bert Meder fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ubanwa Utaka having to interfere. Amaluchukwu Adelanwa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 76th minute. Thanks to some nice moves Bert Meder could shoot a difficult shot in the 86th minute, which Ubanwa Utaka however easily saved by the left post. After a rather tough play, Lagos's Bo Asuquo got a free kick in the 88th minute. Rapuluolisa Belleh struck a weak shot in the 91st minute. Ogbonna Eluemunoh didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Countesthorpe. Ogbuehi Yusuf fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ubanwa Utaka having to interfere. Bert Meder blasted a shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ubanwa Utaka having to make a save. The Countesthorpe players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
