The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The Harrogate fans' excitement grew in the 5th match minute when Harrogate's Onyeka Nakudu looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Okwuadigbo Godwin during the 9th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Okwuadigbo Godwin hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 15th minute, Kent Nkut managed to get in a good position for a shot. Harrogate's supporters rose to their feet, but Kent Nkut was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Idoko Brown Agunu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience was convinced that Kent Nkut's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Idoko Brown Agunu was relentless in the 17th minute of the game. If Onyeka Nakudu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 22 minutes into the game, Onyeka Nakudu cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Idoko Brown Agunu was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Kent Nkut received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Idoko Brown Agunu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Onyeka Nakudu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. The referee ignored FC Pirate's protests and gave Akhiromen Apiafi a yellow card for diving instead. Akhiromen Apiafi kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. When Harrogate's Kent Nkut in the 44th minute got a chance for a shot 44th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye FC Pirate's goalie prevented a goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Kent Nkut made the kick off in the second half. Onyeka Nakudu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Idoko Brown Agunu having to interfere. 57 minutes into the match, Harrogate's goal looked a bit too open when Okwuadigbo Godwin came free, but Nnamdi Akeredolu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Iyke Elejiko sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of FC Pirate booed when Harrogate was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Aluka Bada didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Iyke Elejiko had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The crowd rose to their feet as Kent Nkut kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Idoko Brown Agunu. That made the score 0-4 in the 81 minute of play. With his leg Idoko Brown Agunu managed to avoid a goal in the 85thth minute, when Harrogate's Onyeka Nakudu fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Kent Nkut received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Idoko Brown Agunu came out and tried to block the shot, but Kent Nkut slotted it home off the left post making it 0-5 in the 86th minute. If Onyeka Nakudu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Harrogate's zone, Iyke Elejiko stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nnamdi Akeredolu came out of the goal and Iyke Elejiko tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 95 minutes, Okwuadigbo Godwin managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Pirate's supporters crossed their fingers, but Okwuadigbo Godwin was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
