The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ositadimma Olaoye in the 9th minute of play forced Banfield's goalkeeper William Okwaraji to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 11 minutes into the match, Lincoln FC's Ositadimma Olaoye sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that William Okwaraji narrowly saved just below the crossbar. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nwokike Adaga couldn't finish the play. Chukwuraenye Arumona received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. William Okwaraji tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Akubundu Adefulu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ekenedilichukwu Uchendu, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. Hussein Emeka kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. The supporters of Lincoln FC booed when Banfield was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Richard Shonekan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Banfield's Bankole Abdu got a good chance for a goal in the 46th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Lincoln FC's Ositadimma Olaoye got a good chance for a goal in the 48th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Ositadimma Olaoye to strike the kick off in the second half. With an extended leg and a bit of luck William Okwaraji prevented the ball from getting in the gole. William Okwaraji was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 88 minutes into the match, Lincoln FC's goal looked a bit too open when Bankole Abdu came free, but Akubundu Adefulu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 92nd minute, Banfield's Ekenedilichukwu Uchendu ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Akubundu Adefulu. Akubundu Adefulu yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 4-2. Nwabugwu Adekemi kicked well hit freekick during the 96th minute of the match. Lincoln FC's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
