Yemi Odumegwu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 11 minutes into the match, Borrinchas's goal looked a bit too open when Nwachinemelu Nkwocha came free, but Chi-Chi Abimbola reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Borrinchas's Chi-Chi Abimbola proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 13th minute of the match, managed to save Borrinchas from getting a goal against them. A collision led to Borrinchas getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Seyi Jayeoba hit a great ball. Pius Animam sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 19th minute, Martins Imhagwe made a precise shot to the right of Yemi Odumegwu. Blue stars's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Martins Imhagwe managed to get in a good position for a shot. Borrinchas's supporters rose to their feet, but Martins Imhagwe was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Yemi Odumegwu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Yemi Odumegwu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pius Animam, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. Chi-Chi Abimbola took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jibrin Emenike, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 31st minute Pius Animam shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Yemi Odumegwu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. But to his dismay, Tobe Atere quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. 42 minutes into the game, Borrinchas's Martins Imhagwe nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Yemi Odumegwu made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. In the 48thth minute of the game Pius Animam who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Blue stars's Yemi Odumegwu was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Pius Animam made a kick off. In the 53rd minute Nwachinemelu Nkwocha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Chi-Chi Abimbola saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Yemi Odumegwu was a little too slow when Pius Animam got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 57th minute. The score was now 0-5. Tobe Atere who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 60thth minute tested the skills of Yemi Odumegwu when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The crowd rose to their feet as Borrinchas's Tobe Atere slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Yemi Odumegwu. That made the score 0-6 after 62 minutes of play. Yemi Odumegwu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tobe Atere, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. The supporters of Blue stars booed when Borrinchas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ojiofor Dalhatu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Blue stars's supporters crossed their fingers, but Okoli Obinna was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Tobe Atere's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Yemi Odumegwu firmly grabbed it by the left post. Yemi Odumegwu made an important save on a dangerous shot by Pius Animam in the 84th minute. When the match had gone on for 85 minutes, Martins Imhagwe put it in 0-7 from a short distance just to the right of Yemi Odumegwu. When the final whistle sounded Borrinchas left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Blue stars.
