Spectators: 6860 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1860, VIP seats: 0) Kev Powell made the kick off and thus started the match. After a rather tough play, Fairfield's Pedro Kennedy got a free kick in the 2nd minute. Kev Powell received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 5th minute. Ivan Deacon tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alf Cusack sent away a hard shot on goal in the 9th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 16thth minute of the game Ken Edison who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Crusaders FC's Piers Marlow was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Crusaders FC's Alf Cusack got a good chance for a goal in the 18th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 21 minutes, Gerry Knightley mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Fairfield and the Crusaders FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 21 played minutes Fairfield got a freekick which was hit by Gerry Knightley . Phil Shipton was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 22nd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. After 23 played minutes Fairfield got a freekick which was hit by Adrian Baker . Ivor Haywood sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ken Edison received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Piers Marlow tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alf Cusack fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ivan Deacon having to interfere. Gerry Knightley was shown his second yellow card after 47 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The wind increased when Ivor Haywood made the kick off in the second half. After 59 minutes of play, Crusaders FC's Alf Cusack made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ivan Deacon was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of Crusaders FC booed when Fairfield was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Danny Seaward didn't get a good kick on the ball. Chesney Elliott hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. In the 71st minute, Phil Shipton fired a really elegant long shot, but Ivan Deacon threw himself and managed to get hold of the ball just in front of the right post. In the 73rd minute of the match Brendon Cowling sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ivan Deacon skillfully saved the ball. 77 minutes into the match, Crusaders FC's goal looked a bit too open when Ivor Haywood came free, but Piers Marlow reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Eddie Alsop kicked well hit freekick during the 79th minute of the match. A collision led to Crusaders FC getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Phil Shipton hit a great ball. When Brendon Tetley came up free with the goalie in the 84th minute, the Fairfield fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Brendon Tetley couldn't finish the play. Kev Powell sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 94th minute, Eddie Alsop hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ivan Deacon acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 95th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Phil Shipton. Crusaders FC's Kev Powell got a good chance for a goal in the 97th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The Crusaders FC players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
